Ryuichi Sakamoto B2 Unit Download

broken image

Info for B-2 Unit (Remastered). Following his ground breaking 'Thousand Knives' album. The second solo album by Ryuichi Sakamoto. The co-founder of Yellow Magic Orchestra shows off a more minimal, edgy side of his his work with hard beats, dark bass lines, and stark keyboard work that sits somewhere between synth-pop and industrial. Because of this, B2 Unit is seen as a landmark piece of work. Something I’ve noticed about Ryuichi Sakamoto’s work is that he reworks a lot of his own songs. For example, Sakamoto recently reworked his song Energy Flow with Japanese tabla drum player Uzhaan and Japanese rappers 環ROY and 鎮座DOPENESS.

Ryuichi Sakamoto
Born in 1952 in Nakano (Tokyo), Ryuichi Sakamoto has been active in the entertainment industry since his graduation from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
He achieved western fame as a member of electronic pioneer trio Yellow Magic Orchestra from 1978 until the mid 80s. By then he started writing music alone, or contributing with artists, most notably David Sylvian.
His exploits include an Academy Award for his score to the 1987 Bernardo Bertolucci film The Last Emperor, the soundscape for the opening ceremony of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, and was even hired by the Finnish mobile phone company Nokia to compose ring tones for the Nokia 8800. He is maybe the most influential Japanese musician in electronica. In addition to making music, he has also acted in movies, most notably in 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence' co-starring David Bowie, for which Ryuichi also composed perhaps his most memorable film soundtrack.
Trivia - he acts as a director in Madonna's 'Rain' video. He also modeled for 'The Gap' among other products.

Released in 1980 while Yellow Magic Orchestra was enjoying its first wave of mega-success, B-2 Unit was Ryuichi Sakmoto’s second full length solo effort. Contrasting with the pop-oriented works Sakamoto was doing with YMO at the time, B-2 Unit was produced with a focus on sounds and tones rather than traditional song strucutres. B-2 Unit has proven to be very much ahead of its time and extremely influential in the development of electronic music. “”Riot In Lagos,”” in particular, is often cited as the blueprint for electro/techno sounds that would rise to prominence in the ensuing decade. Recorded in London and Tokyo with dub master Dennis Bovell, Penguin Cafe Orchestra’s Steve Nye, XTC’s Andy Partridge, guitarist Kenji Omura.
